hi all, sorry to ask for help on my first post but recently got myself a td4 Freelander, just been to my mums round the corner and when I switched the engine off there was an electrical sounding noise coming from the passenger side engine bay a bit like a fan noise along with some steam or smoke (couldn't tell which because its dark!) any ideas what this could be? I also noticed that one end of the pipe coming from my egr filter isn't connected to anythin but hanging loose, hope I haven't baught a heep! Thankyou for any help guys.

egr filter ???

if yer on about the erg valve then that odd sound on shutdown .. Might be
the Dyin' Duck sound that happens when the egr vacuum hose is blocked
( should be Blocked .. Not left open ) after the egr vacuum solenoid

check to see if you have a Fuel Burning Heater fitted
( do a site search for FBH ) ..
that Might account for the smoke .. 'n maybe the noise
don't know what noise they make as i've not one fitted to mine ..
maybe someone in the know can answer that ..

If you've no FBH fitted then the smoke/steam is obviously something else
the FBH has a short 'exhaust' pipe at the front passenger side ..

btw: if it is blocked then an EGR bypass/delete be the way-to-go

hi thankyou for the help did plan on joining at some point anyway but will introduce myself tomorrow when I'm not so tired! Lol I'm not sure if it has a fuel burning heater fitted I will check tomorrow when its light, by egr filter I meant the thing in the pic below, it has some black pipe coming from either end one pipe is connected to something the other is just hanging loose

Turbo filter.

It is normal for one end to be open and yes, it just dangles!.

Looks nice and clean.
