Can anyone please just clarify to me if the TD5 should be normally driven in high or low ratio, or should the small lever position should be pushed forword or pulled back when sat in the normal driving position. Sorry if I sound stupid to you pro's but im new to the landrover owners scene and have had different views so need to know what is correct. Thanks for your help great site.

Forward is low ratio, centre is neutral, back is high ratio. For day to day driving you would stay in high ratio. Low ratio you would use off road or on a steep descent (mainly), in low ratio you can engage the HDC button (hill decent control). This operates in conjunction with the anti-lock braking system and is designed to stop wheels locking and therefore sliding.

Unless you're off roading it's highly unlikely you would use low ratio, if this is the case engage low ratio every few weeks (vehicle stationary) as the lever will seize up if not used for long periods of time. It's all explained better in the owners manual.

although low range is useful on tarmac in the snow, but high range for normal driving

Hi Steve,
If you put your location in there may be a "Landiphile" somewhere close by to run through things with you. That's asuming you haven't got the owners handbook to read :)
