I need some advice before I set about reviving my 110 from a long period of hibernation. I'm ashamed to admit it hasn't moved or been started for just over a year and I'm a bit unsure about what I need to do before I attempt to start it up.

It's in good nick generally, with a low-mileage flat 2.5 diesel engine and bog-standard ex-military trim (XCL tyres on steel wheels, etc) with no mods apart from a new hard-top and seats. The battery's been disconnected since I last used it (November 2004) and the only other thing I can tell you about it is that the plug on the fuel tank has been leaking, leaving a sizeable hole in the tarmac underneath! I can see the front discs have a fair bit of visible corrosion, as has the rest of the underside, but it still seems to be reasonably solid. I'm in Spain, if that makes any difference.

I'm thinking I should ditch the battery and get a new one, first off, but is there anything else I should do or beware of before attempting to starting up and drive off?

I'd appreciate any advice, or maybe links to web pages that might help.

Thanks.

once you have made sure its not seized, check the oil level and top up if needed.prime the pump mannually(by hand) before you try to turn it over on the key.when if first starts it will probably smoke like a bastard but whatever you do dont rev it for a good few minutes. you may need to put jump leads across to something else just to give you the extra boost when trying to start it. where abouts in spain are you ;)

Yeah make sure the engines not going to rip itsself apart. Check all the oil levels diff, boxes etc... wouldn't be to good if u pulled off with no oil in something, you may find the hand brake siezed if it was on.

Drive it off slowly after its idled, take some full lock turns to move the steering about, and brake a bit to check they work.
