Stoppy The Landrover
New Member
Hi all, I was researching my landy, Stoppy, on-line under ex-coast guard series 3 & chanced upon threads on this site. I was intrigued to find a photo of what may only be described as a sibling to mine with the registration just 2 digits adrift (853 to my 875). My landy had been abused then dumped in a hedge for several years but last year we rescued him, got him road legal & this year we're fine tuning - you know the stuff, re-wire the spaghetti electrics so you can turn off the engine with the key instead of the driving lamps switch; try & stop the rear driving/brake lightbulbs falling out (he spits 'em out at night!); prop up the dash controls so you don't have to scrabble for the hazards cos he's run out of fuel (gauge doesn't work) across the road on the blind junction at the top of the hill; remedy the discovery that the back brakes are siliconed together (& we thought that was only the carb!); fix the seat base so you don't amputate your own legs in the event of an emergency speed-reduction-request (or 'stop' as is recognised by non-classic standards!) oh & maybe address the impromptu-shower issue from within (condensation) & without (precipitation) or sometimes around (palpitation/perspiration) depending on the trip. Modern vehicles are sooo boring!
My partner builds steam traction engines, the last 7', 1 1/2 ton scale model in my lounge. I also get to play with a friend's vehicles, not least moggy minor vans, bedford TK, steam engines - full size road loco's & showmans' & he promises I'll drive the scammells (pioneer/explorer) & the Osh Kosh heavy-haulage/recovery - who needs make-up, fashion & reality/celebrity when there's character & adrenalin in the yard or work's carpark?! I also have a 1hp, er - horse, great off-roader, exhaust emissions constant but don't cause respiratory distress, well not long-term, that's the fueling by-product pollens in summer.
Along with all things rusty I also have a 12yr old prototype son finished in red-oxide, yup, I breed carrots! Aside from a DB9 & a quad he'll take character vehicle every time, that's my boy, just needs that 12v for the playstation!
Well, there you are, that's me & mine. Thanks for reading thus far...
