Hi, I'm Ian, these days I live in Italy.
Over the years I've owned quite a few Land Rovers most have been very reliable and inexpensive to run, apart from the cost of fuel! You see I'm a V8 lover so although I've owned a few diesels,110's and a disco III, I always seem to come back to V8's.
Anyway I've stripped a few and rebuilt a few and enjoyed every minute and the pleasure you get from the end product. Which brings me to the point. I have a LHD Classic which has spent a lot of time in Dubai and more recently in the UK with a wax oil treatment once a year. It's previous owned told me it had been purchased in Dubai by his ex-girlfriend who he later bought it from, hence two owners on the V5. True or not it doesn't matter the car is in pretty good condition. Having said that driving it to Italy from the UK revealed a head gasket problem. I kind of knew it had the problem when I bought it but for the price I wasn't about to complain or return it. So a month or two later and the head job is complete. I should say during the process both heads were skimmed and new gaskets used throughout. Now she's running fine maintaining the correct temperature and all is good but the other day I noticed a trickle of what I'm sure is antifreeze fluid dripping off the gearbox, not off the bell housing but further back off the main gearbox. I have looked everywhere and can't find a leak and the leak doesn't get any worse when run up to temperature.
So any idea's out there!
Thanks Ian
Hopefully in the future I can offer suggestions back to other members of the forum.
