Hi all, my name is Simon and I’m new to the forum (although I’ve been browsing as a guest for years!).
I have a long term love/hate relationship with my ageing and needy 200tdi 110, but wouldn’t swap it for anything!
I’m currently putting the engine back together (again!) after one of the cam rollers and tappet slides decided to eat itself and the camshaft lobe that it ran on. I have a spare doner 200tdi engine, so have swapped the knackered camshaft with the tip-top original one out of that. Before removing the old one, I used a dial gauge to measure the end float and all was well .15mm - within tolerance, however, when I slid the replacement in, it slides back into the block by almost 20mm - there doesn’t appear to be anything to stop it from sliding in (towards the back) just the thrust plate to stop it from sliding out (towards the front)
Does this sound normal? I’m confused because the old one only moved by the measured .15mm.
Really, hugely, massively appreciate anyone’s experience and expertise on this!!
Thank you!
