Hi all, I don’t own a Land Rover yet but I was looking for some tips on buying my first, looking fir a Defender TD5 (£12k budget). is there anyway I can check original spec of a defender by the Reg? (I’ve owned a classic VW in the past and you could get access to birth certificates).

Thanks for your help

Welcome to Landyzone.

I’m sure you will get lots of buying advice on here.

Rather than the spec, I would be looking at the chassis and doors. To name a couple of things to look out for.

:)

Hi and welcome!

The British Motoring Heritage Trust at Gaydon will tell you the spec with a chassis number. LR main dealers may be able to help too.

There’s lots of good help and advice on here too. Let us know what you get.

Welcome:)

Loads, price V condition just cos it’s old don’t mean it’s worse;). Just cos it’s shiney don’t mean it’s solid;)

But you can check chassis number against spec of said vehicle. Which is always a good start, and if there is a difference it will be a conversation;).

if you do find something comeback here with pics and ask:)

Good luck in your search:)

Hi there and welcome. I'm not sure original spec is too important, more, does everything work that's fitted and is the chassis and bulkhead sound? Are the engine and gearbox good?

Hi, if you look in the for sale section. A TD5 D90 is being advertised.

Good luck in your search.

Thanks for the reply, I just wanted to check original spec because Im going to buy it through my business and I need to make sure its a commercial vehicle or ill get taxed heavily.....I do like to keep things original too so I'd love to know how it left the factory

The use of Amercanisms on LZ is endemic. Welcome and good luck with the search. I’m sure there is a defenders buyers guide of where to look for the common issues and serial numbers etc.
