Hi,
Proud new owner of a series 3 109 Station Wagon Petrol 2 1/4. Lots of fun. Sold my SWB TD5 and bought something a little older (1981).

I am just getting used to it and it has some challenges which I will need some help on. If anyone can point me in the right direction to save me asking duplicate questions it would be helpful.

1) There is a black cap in the engine block with what looks like a place to connect a hose. There is a large pipe going to the carb (I assumer air pipe) which has a smaller pipe off it. This has a bolt in the end and jubilee clip. I can feel air/exhaust coming out the cap. I assume this is not good. I have read up but get confused by pipe names (if you do not know what the pipes are called reading this stuff is confusing). It explains the exhaust smell in the cab (I think).

2) Just in front of the rear wheels there is a box section running across the car (not chassis but part of body). The box section is rusted away to nothing and only connect to the chassis now on one side. It has a relatively recent MOT so must have been passed but is it an issue?

3) Fuel consumption. OMG. How much fuel is this thing drinking. It sounds like exhaust is blowing but I reckon its the breather cap noise. Would this cap issue kill fuel consumption?

4) Driver side door lock. I had one spare in the car (nice previous owner) still in its box. Fitted ok but the barrels (old or new) do not seem to click in and stay in place. The barrels fall out when you pull the key out. I think the new lock is faulty. Anyone?

Any tips welcome.

Thanks

Simon

Thanks to the online community I have now solved 1) (part on order). Point 2 is still in need of resolution. 3) OMG still drinking fuel lol. Point 4. Solved. Faulty supplied lock. New one on order.

Managed to bolt down the rear seats which were rattling so the whole thing now drives more calmly.

Post again in the Series 3 section ... or 2.5 NA engine section

they're clever they is ... :D

if they tell you "yer pig is drinking all yer fuel", they may be teasing you ... :D
