Hi all

Kev here.

Completely new to world of Land Rovers, just bought a 1989-1998 ( depending on who you talk to (MOD or DVLA )

I live near Porstmouth (someone has to!! ) and needed to get a vehicle that would get me in and out of forestry / Woodland areas and farmed fields for conservation work. I have always looked towards the 90 and finally took the jump a couple of weeks ago ( Big jump :D )

I ended up with a 90 that has a lot of work done already by several previous owners. It has a Disco 200TDi fitted which could do with some work on the pipes and hose routing in the engine bay. upgraded heavy duty radius arms and a 2" lift with Insa Turbos fitted. Recaro type bucket seats, Warn Winch, loads of guards, Disc brakes all round, etc etc.

The only problem really is that due to the mods done by different owners i am not 100% sure what has actually been fitted when it comes to parts and this has a knock on for spares etc.

Generally the beasty seems pretty tidy with only a few niggly ( to me ) bits that could do with sorting. It has a tendancy to "clunk" when taking foot of the throttle or if it has been reversed in to the drive and then later taken out it will "clunk" as the drive engages. I put this possibly down to play or slack in the drive chain which may be exagerated by the 2" lift kit fitted. I have been told not to worry about it but it is always in the back of the mind and i can't believe it is normal!!

The other bits and bobs are how to identify things like what axles are fitted for parts and also how to identify wheel hubs as i think these ( 2 of 4 ) seem to be the only real evident oil leakage from the vehicle which i have been told is pretty good.

The heat or lack of seems to be pretty standard and the matrix will be getting an inspection for condition shortly. I would also, eventually, like to fit heated rear window and a rear wiper if possible.

What would be great is if there was someone near-ish to the Portsmouth area that could cast an eye over the 90 and give some opinions / advice etc so i could plan the best way to move forward and get her into tiptop shape.

I have had her out in the recent snow of road and it had no evident problems getting through woodland tracks in deep mid/snow.

Any help greatly appreciated and if anyone is local and willing to throw in their tuppence i'm sure beer tokens could be made available :5bhurray:.!!!

Look forward to meeting some of you guys on & off road.

Best Rgds
Merry Xmas & Happy New Year to all
Kev
