bought a swb series iii with a small/moderate oil leak, have replaced the sump gasket and oil filter but she's still drippin. any ideas

Can you see exactly where the leak is coming from or are you just finding the sump covered in oil?

Treat it like a Triumph m8 ... put a pan under it!

Italian electrics fry
American soft-tops leak
English engines leak oil

'Tis a fact of life.

**** boy is that it ????you got a oil leak !! if only mine was like that. it got a oil leaks, pumptrol leak, brake fluid leak, diesel leak, dilytheum crsytal leak, oh i think the roof leaks aswell. and the exhaust leaks and the heater she no worky. the left ind comes on when you open the bonnet. but like yer maun says thats the way things are with a landrover. where else would you get this kind of mechanical expereince?

yeah thanks guys, know its not a major prob just costing shed loads in oil, its dripping off some cross beam thing just behind the sump, guessing its blowing onto it whilst driving but hey im no machanic. like you say all the other leaks n squeeks are part of it rustic charm, or so i tell myself :D

my doctor warned me if i came orf me medication this could happen. never mind the chemist will be open in the morning and i'll be back to normal, or should that be back to abnormal? ...............on a different matter i got the thing started today, and if i find the time next week i'll get round to doing the wirering, at the moment its two bits of wire and one of them there battery pack starter thingys.

Hmmm

my old 2.25 engine used to leak all the time - I just treated it as self-servicing. You know, no need to bother changing the oil each year 'cause it's always betting topped up as you go along. If you have trouble tracing the exact position of the leak you might have to give the old girl a thorough cleaning with a pressure washer underneath. Just remember that the oil usually drips from the lowest point, not necessarily where it's leaking. Good luck;)

Don't put any more oil in the engine, after a week or so the leak will stop. Putting oil in it will only encourage it, its an attention seeking ploy by your Landy.
