There are lots of horror stories on here regarding HGF. Are there any higher milegae 1.8 Freelanders which have never had a HG problem or is it inevitable!!
I have spoken to LR and v good independent LR specialist who have said they have seen a lot of it but mostly on older models.
I would love to hear from anyone who hasn't had a HG problem on higher mileage Freelanders....I would like to think I have some chance of avoiding this!!

I think Tiny's motors got 150K and the clock and still going strong,;)
and then theres ...erm....wotsisname???.................:rolleyes:

Alot of sob tales on here ,as they come for advice,but a lot driving with no problems at all,so dont worry be happy,maybe Bob will come on en cheer ya up. . .:)

ye i see pre 2000my k series still on orininal HGS, just because its common doesnt mean it will hapeen to every one, keeping the oil and coolant in good order is an absolute must

Yes, on condition he brings the stuff along you all seem to need on a regular basis ??;) :p :p
 
I think the "K" series petrol engines have a 100% failure rate ;)
Like it was once pointed out to me by Ming, people tend to post horror stories not praise. Sad really but I guess this is just human nature.
There is a problem with head gaskets failing on K series engines, not just in the Freelander but in most vehicles it is fitted to (MG TF for instance).
My V6 Freelander blew a HG at 38k miles, K series engine.
So, you may get lucky with a K series equipped Freelander but don't be surprised if you buy one and it fails at an early age.
Freelander is a nice motor though. I miss mine :(
 
hi guys i have a 99 1.8 xei 55k on clock i have put slick 50 in engne & a simala product in the cooling system ment to make it run cooler ..preventative medicine i guess & mine no probl;em at all the car never failed me
very wary of the problems but just hopein it wont happen to mine

i doubt you'll avoid it, the gasket is a **** design, a piece of metal with rubber glued on, they normally fail around the one of the head bolts, the rubber comes detatched then drops all the coolant down the bolt and into the oil.

Theres a new, modified 2 part gasket now as well as head bolts and oil rail, ive yet to see one of these fail so when yours does go, it will!!! make sure you get all the modified parts (thats if the engine survives).

Elises Blow them too.................... alot cr@p engine IMO What they using now as a 1.8?

It will fail it is inevitable.

Whether it's a 1.4 or a 1.8 k-series (i know of 7 in the 6 months at work) or even a KV6 2.5 it will fail.

It's a design flaw except it.

Then sell it.

L-Series diesel wil do about 200K but it was rough from new.

TD4 will just eat sensors as it dies fuel but these are the pick of the bunch.
