My 2001 P38a HEVAC display screen is having an off day. It shows a black screen when the car is started and sometimes comes back on after the car is driven a few miles. At other times it responds to tapping the screen. The screen seems to have a small amount of movement and pressing the edge one way or another results in the display operating normally. I have read posts on this forum and on the rangerovers.net forum. which explain how the unit can be removed from the car and very helpfull on some repair jobs. However the screen problem that I am experiencing is not covered. Can anyone suggest what might be wrong. I intend removing the unit but it would be helpfull if I had some suggestions to commence the repairs.

Just removed my HIVAC assembly, (more by accident than intention), as I am stripping my interior but it is simple to get to so 'get it out' and take a look!

As Ovalandrover said - it could be a dodgy connector, (there are three/four multi blocks if my memory isn't playing tricks on me).

I believe that it is an LCD display so if it was a 'logic' issue I would still expect to see something on the display panel, (even if it is garbage), and this would support the bulb theory as the LCD display requires a back light.

I haven't looked at the assembly, closely, so I can't comment on dissassembly - yet!

Incidentaly my clock just 'fell out' from the trim so I suspect others have been before me!

Yes I will have to take the unit out, I was hoping that someone may have had a similar problem and could help pinpoint the likely cause. When the display is working it is very clear and backlight brightness can be altered from the control on the steering column. So bulbs seem OK. Bad contact some place.
