Well i have just bought another Freelander, it's not the best i have owned that is for sure and has a few problems, i have saved it from the scrap heap and paid the grand sum of £160 for it, it is a 51 plate td4, manual and what caught my eye was it has a facelift lights and bumper fitted, like i say it is a bit of a project and not had time to have a good look at it yet, but you can't expect a lot for that kind of money. it has M.O.T. until next feb, engine starts first time, but when it starts to warm up it feels a bit missy, the clown who was going to scrap it has cut off the cat, even though they are worthless, but, it is what it is, so i will be searching the forum for tips and cures for my problems, and, if i find any cures myself i will keep those interested, up to date with my progress. Nice to be back on the forum again

Looking forward to the updates. I've done similarly stupid things myself in the past.

To be honest Its not the worst car i have ever bought and it will break for more than i paid for it, if the situation arises, plus it gives me something to do during my retirement and the lock down

It's odd that it's been facelifted yet was going to be scrapped. The facelift lights + bumper cost a sheckle or three, and it's more than a mornings work to fit them, so to then scrap it with a bit of test on it, very very odd???

Anyways, as the kids say these days - "this thread's worthless without pictures!"

Sorry i have been away for a couple of weeks, been extremely busy trying to get some form of reliability into my daily driver,[ old bmw e90 petrol ] however i fully understand, as the man says, the thread is worthless without pictures, i will see if i can post some up, but at over 60, i'm not the best with computers

you speak as if the front end was fitted and then ready for the scrap yard the next day, he could have had the front end fitted10 years ago, or he could have bought it like that, we will never know, but what we do know is, it's mine for now for a bargain price and thats all i'm bothered about mate

Like Jayridium says someone has gone to a lot of trouble to do that (facelift it) good on ya for saving it, does the chassis no. start 1A1 ?

no mate it is SAL
Thanks for the reply. I think, from 01, if not before, all model years start SALLNABE1 then after that the 1A1 = MY 2001, 2A2 =2002, 3A3=2003, 4A4=2004 etc. So I just wondered if your c/no has 1A1 after the SALLNABE1 bit just to confirm it is a MY2001.

My Chassis numbers are SALLNABE72A3 And that's as far as i am going with my chassis numbers on line, the last 5 numbers are not on here, but they are all numbers

It's an A3 (last 2 characters in the number above) so it's a 2003 Model Year vehicle, made between January 1st 2003 to December 31rd.
Edit. I could be wrong there.

So how it can have a 2001 registration plate? Something it's right there.
Isn't it a 2A? So a 2002 model year probably released in 2001.

You know I can't remember if it's the prefix number or suffix number now. My brain isn't as sharp as it was. I was sure it was the suffix, but can't remember now. :(

I just ran it through the Calvin checker adding 12345 and it came back with MY 2002.
