ok guys, after deciding that an engine transfer is not for me I am going back to plan A and sorting the body work on my 300tdi.
underneath it is now solid and had new boot and door arches etc. the panels are a little rough though and paint knackered so plan to give her a paint job.
the current colour is darkish blue from 1994, dont know the code but it is the common blue colour.
I have not done any spraying since I was 18 when I used to spray mini's, however this was with the help of my mechanic dad so i will be rusty but capable.
I have a compressor and also a very close friend that sells car paint so i get full benefits with prices so my plan is to get a cheapo spray gun and spray rather than hand paint like i was originally planning.
I plane to do a panel at a time.
my questions:
if i rub dont the whole car using a random orbital sander with finer grit paper will i get away with only using primer over the filler areas or do i need to prime the whole car?
if i dont have to prime the whole car do I have to spray blue?
lastly what colour to go for?
the interior is blue/grey, inside, arches etc all painted black, i like black wheels and black chequered kit.
I like solid colours and want to pick a colour that will be forgiving of being sprayed without all of the workshop kit on an old car with a few battle scars.
I like dark blue, red, white.
anyone have any other suggestions or even better paint codes.
