Hi I was wondering if somebody can help me I have done a search and can't find the answer I have a 94 discovery v8 and I want to read the fault codes but the only readers I can find are for 96 cars on wards (OBD 2) after a bit more research I found out my disco should have an led screen with 2 numbers on it located under the seat I have looked and the only thing under there is the cd changer and crumbs,mud,leaves ect lol so do models with the cd changer have the screen in a different location ?

Mine is the 300 series and I read it on the net somewhere might might have been in America so I guessing it's not fitted to uk cars
 
Well When I got it the idle was all over the place and te bloke I got it off said it was vacuum related so I checked the vacuum advance unit and it was busted so I changed that and it's better but not 100% so I wanted to see if it has any codes like air flow sensor or coolant sensor ect so I can fix the fault and not just chuck money at it hoping for a fix
 
you bought it even though it was broken - you're worse than me lol

idle problems can be down to various issues - check the voltages on the AFM to see if they are giving the correct values.

Then you have a 1995 disco, as 300s were introduced with the 95MY.
Anyway if you have a decent multimeter you can do a few test yourself, this link will explain. :)

Yea I know but it was too good to pass on :). Well that's strange because it's a 300 series for sure and it's a 94 on an L, thank you for the link looks like I getting
My multi meter out tomorrow !
 
Don't you mean the year of registration was 1994, you have a 95MY disco on sale from March 1994, 1994MY disco were still the 200s.. :)
It's the same at the other end, some 1998MY D1s were registered in 2000 that doesn't make then a 2000 D1.
 
Just a bit of info on OBD to help clarify maybe. As far as I know it wasn't standardised or mandatory until 2001/2002 so anything prior to this, whilst having an ECU with a diagnostics connector, might need specialist kit (faultmate etc) to communicate with it rather than just a generic OBD reader.
 
Now I am confused lol so it's a 200 even tho it looks like a 300 it's the same as what you have in you picture

Registration and model year are totally different things, you have a 95MY disco registered sometime after March in 1994 ;)

It could be a a vacuum leak from elsewhere as well - have you tried the 'Carb-cleaner' routine where you run engine and spray cleaner at likely leak spot and listen for an increase in rpms? This will help you with obvious leaks at the throttle-body (but keep a fire extinguisher on hand - just in case you ignite the carb-cleaner outside of the intake or combustion areas) but for tougher leaks you will need to smoke the engine (i.e., a smoke machine pumps in smoke under pressure and it will show up where a leak is occurring).
