Hello guys great site,

Need a little advice, I quite fancy getting a Landy but I am struggling with what type to get, my budget is about 6-8 K, I will be using it to travel a lot and it will be lugging all my dive gear, however it will be my only car. Probably wont go off road to much, maybe just muddy fields and gravel lanes etc..nothing extreme.

Was thinking about a TD4 Freelander, Disco diesel or defender. I like defenders but was worried it might be a bit to extreme for every day use. I am leaning towards the Freelander at the momment, I know they are the girly version of a Landy but they are more manly than the other brands on offer so that doesn't bother me.

Any advise would be great.

You'll get more Disco for your money than anything else. More space than a Gaylander for your gear, more comfy than a Defender & capable off road if you do find yourself bitten by the bug.

Yup I reckon a disco's the best allrounder esp if you want to do lots of miles in comfort.

should be able to get a luverly 01 plate td5 for that or if your flush 4.0 v8

hi im new to the site and am in a similar situation as yourself as i am replacng my car and my van with a defender i may be sligtly biased after driving series iii and defenders both in the forces and on civil engineering projects as well as the odd camping and climing expedition
but id opt for a defender every time.the 110 has great load space and you can have a kip in the back after ur dive.or if you prefer somthiong smaller a 90 or even make a statment witn a lightweight.the freelander is not great size wise if theres a party of people travelling.also the defenders fuel consumptiobn is no worse than a large estate or mpv.sorry for rabbiting but my wife gets bored talking about cars and i dont get out much

Hi,
I'm new to this site as well. Just sold a freelander and bought a 110 instead, better for carting stuff about and sleeping in and the dog loves it too

i suggest you do what im doing take your big items of dive gear and required no of mates / wife,kids and baby seats and go to you local dealer and try a few vehicles then go buy one on ebay/autotrader etc

There are quite a lot of posts along the lines of "what should I get". My advice would be, go and have a look at some, read a few mags or something, make your own mind up based on what you've looked at and read about, then go and flamin buy one. You can find the answer to "will my whatever fit in a freelander?" by walking round a car park.
