Discovery300TDI

Hi all, im new to this site and heard such great things about it. I live just outside Doncaster and drive a 97 Discovery 300TDI. Me and my friend (he also has a discovery) would love to try some green laning but just dont know where to start. Is there anybody nearby that we could possibly tag along with one weekend? We figured it would be best to go along with somebody with some experience and lane knowledge. Any help would be appreciated, thanks, Rob
p.s our discovery's are completely standard :)

Hi Rob,

Firstly I am sure that someone in your neck of the woods will be on here soon to invite you out and about... they are generally a pretty friendly bunch...

Regarding your motor... just make sure that even if you carry nothing else while you are out, that you do have recovery points fitted front and rear. Jate rings or a tow bar on the back... and Jate rings on the front are pretty good.

Hi I'm in the same situ, but i'm on the Essex Suffolk border (Manningtree).
Just been looking at some Jate rings on paddockspares.com
Not sure weather to go for Jate rings - where to fit?
or they sell recovery eyes - again not sure where to fit
and then I guess it would be the kinetic tow road.

Oh nearly forgot. Mine's a 300 tdi 98 (no mod's).

Thanks Nick.

Hi Nick...

Fitting Jates to the front should not be a problem. Take a look behind the bumper at the chassis and you should find two bloody great big holes throught the chassis on each side. Two Jates are best since they allow for a bridle to spread the load.

Don't go for a kinetic rope. Search the forum and you find lots of evidence for their danger. They are a good piece of kit but come complete with life threatening dangers of they are not used with great care... a normal rope will stretch a little and give plenty of scope for decent recovery in all but the most dire of circumstances.

There is a group of us in Essex that met up a couple of months ago and have become good friends through laning and p&p days. Have a look at the Essex lane thread (probably best to start at the last page, v long and old thread) and come and join us. I know that we should be doing some lanes in the next few weeks.

Firstly, well done for deciding to do things responsibly. Why don't you look and see if you can join a local club? If you google 4x4 club doncaster i'm sure you'll find one or two.

I know it is a fair drive (but not too far) from you but the chesterfield area is fantastic for lanes. Find a club around there and maybe go every now and again for a change. It's stunning up in the moors.

Manningtree (Essex Suffolk border, river Stour).
Thanks for the tip. I'll order some tomorrow and hopefully fit in next week or so.
Are you local?
