Hi,

Im looking for a bit of help, im after a Discovery so I can do a bit of greenlaning and the occasional heavier offroading, ive got around £2000 to spend on it, but aswell as being an offroader i also need it to goto work, and get me about, so thats why im thinking of going for a disco as theyre more comfy than a defender!

Basically ive been offered a M reg Disco with loads of extras, lift kit, mud terrains, rock sliders, winch, snorkel etc to name but a few!

BUT its on 212k, I was just wondering what people think with regards to this lasting much longer, I mean ill prob need to get another 50k out of it in the next couple of years, and I was wondering what people's experiences with Disco's this high milage is? Provided theres not much smoke when I look and all seems well with the usual bad bits if I go for it and I look after it well do you think this will last? I know its a tough one to answer but just looking for some opinions really...

Thanks! Paul

With all those extras it sounds like it's had a hard life. The mileage shouldn't be too much of a problem if it's been well looked after. I'd suggest getting a standard one that got plenty of receipts / service history. For £2k you'll get a decent one with less mileage.

Cheers for that,

This one does have "loads of receipts" apparently so ill take a look at them and see what has been done, the thing is im looking to put most of those extras on (all as part of my 2k budget, tall order i know!) so if this has got them all and is in fairly good nick, im tempted to go for it, but we shall see...

Why do you want all them extra's just to do a bit of greenlaning +

If it's got a snorkel odds on it's been in water which means more chance of knackered wheel bearings, props etc.........

Get a good one that's never been off road (there are a lot about) with loads of bills and service history and put a decent set of off road wheels & tyres on it.

For 2k with those bits on it could be a bargain, the mileage as long as some history shows regular oils/filters/antifreeze etc changes should not create a problem. As James states non of that equipment is really required for greenlaning, in fact it could even be frowned upon as Joe public gets the wrong impression seeing a large tricked out vehicle ripping up the countyside whereas a std looking vehicle just with some decent AT tyres on will still get you anywhere you wish to go and not upset Joe public. My own Disco was bought for £1750 with service history up to 128K (when I bought it) now 6 months later has 153K on it and has not cost me any large repair bills other than normal service items/tyres/brake pads etc.
