Hi,

I've probably posted this in the wrong place and if I have forgive me

A newbie here on the forum and only recent convert to a '98 Ranger Rover P38 HSE.

I've had problems with the EAS, but that at the moment is the least of my problems, the battery has gone completely flat and the central locking on the drivers door has also decided not to work, (unable to unlock manually) so at the present , my car is on the roadside (outside my house), locked and I'm unable to get in, in any way shape or form.
Asides from breaking a window, or removing a window, has anyone any advice as to how to gain entry with out going to such drastic measures or am I resigned to the fact that I'm going to have to remove or smash a window...?

Thanks for your help, if of course anyone can suggest anything

so let me get this straight - you want us to tell you how to break into a Range Rover when no one knows you?? on a public Forum??

Well don’t get your hopes up as I doubt anyone is going to give you the answer you want.

However if this is genuine then I do empathise with your situation!

Dunno an awful lot about rangies :rolleyes: dunt the key open any other door or the boot then??

I've never done this, but I think that you can connect 12v to the starter supply cable and this will energise the battery and possibly allow you to operate the central locking ... can also be done through a tow bar power socket.

as we all know he's on the safe side for now - opening the P38 is only opening a can of worms:behindsofa:

Yip i agree JC, he is gonna be a lot better off financially and mentally if he leaves it locked and just admires it from the outside :D:D
 
At a guess the RF receiver is fubar and flattened battery and burnt out your door locks??...don't know if it will help you but on my last p38 i managed to get my bonnet open (snapped cable) by getting under the car with it jacked up.
I got a broom handle with a nail or such in the end and just kept fiddling with the catch until I got it open! May help may not, but if you can then charge battery to open locks off remote then hey presto but other than that? Did it open off fob before?
 
If the Key won't mechanically open the door lock when you put in the lock barrel, this would indicate the lock mech is bust (common problem on the P38)....a search may give some answers...

If the car is Superlocked and the mechnical key doesn't work....the only resort maybe to break a window, but you also won't be able to lift the sill locks on the door either as superlocking locks these in place too....whilst you'll be in you may still not get the door open....

Also once you are in, you might not be able to start the car, as the BeCM could still be in an Alarmed State, and prevent the car from starting....usually to overcome this, you will put in the EKA code via the Door Lock - but if yours is bust you can't input the code and the BeCM will not allow you to start the car....

The Range Rover is well known to be almost impossible to steal by breaking in, then hot wiring....as sometimes even if you ARE the owner WITH THE KEY - the beast still won't start or unlock for you.....why do we love these cars so much....??:D:D:D:D

Some advice more helpful than others though :) , although at the moment I'm contemplating shooting the locks out and or just breaking the glass and getting in that way. Not being able to open the door using the key (knackered lock) and a flat battery.Although admiring from the roadside is a good past time but not very good when we need the car :( (Wife's not very well :( )

However, it was just a thought that joining the forum, someone may have been able to offer some helpful advice

Would have thought the answer was obvious but apparently not :p

Looks like to me you will have to break the window that will give you access to the bonnet release were you will be able to charge the battery thus allowing you to attempt to unlock the door :rolleyes:
 
I would try charging the battery via the battery feed on the starter motor as suggested earlier. + clip here and the negative to any good earth.

Before I broke any thing.
 
Dont forget to stick an axle stand underneath it when you jack car up to get at the starter will you.
