Hello again,

Good news, engine is running๐Ÿ˜Š
Just to mention, I am DIY home Mechanic & this is my first Defender. Learning as I go & great to have access to this forum.

Next challenge I have .
When engine starts, it goes straight to high revs so I have to turn off ignition.

Accelerator has no effect.

If anyone could point me in right direction please

Thank you ๐Ÿ–๏ธ

Look at the mechanism on the injector pump first. Is it going back to the stop? Throttle cable might just need slacking off.

Hello,
Yes, mechanism is returning to stop ok.
I also removed throttle cable so as to be sure.
Thank you for your reply๐Ÿ–๏ธ

The fact you can turn it off is good. If itโ€™s revving itโ€™s head off and you canโ€™t turn it off, thatโ€™s bad. Iโ€™m guessing there is something not right with the injector pump and something is sticking open even with the accelerator disconnected or someone has been tinkering with it. Is the blanking disc still on the top ? The brass looking thing on the top in this photo.

Hello
Thanks for information, much appreciated.
Jeep has not been used for past 10 plus years. Maybe something stuck somewhere, I will keep tinkering away for the moment .
Thanks again for your help ๐Ÿ–๏ธ

10 years !! That might be your problem then. The old fuel may have gunged up the internals of the pump. If you can get some injector cleaner or similar mixed with fuel and get it into the pump then let it sit for a day or so, that might be enough to free it off. Iโ€™m not sure of a method of getting the treatment in there though !!!

Thanks , fuel is ok and lines etc renewed. Also bleed of system, all banjo bolts , new copper washers , new fuel lift pump & lines.
But as you mentioned, there might be something internal.
Will refresh fuel again and add injector cleaner etc, through everything in ๐Ÿ˜Š and see what happens.
Thanks again for your help ๐Ÿ–๏ธ

Hello,
High Reving on start up is now resolved.
Stuck / Seized boost pin was the issue.
Removed/ cleaned/ lobricated etc .
Seems to have worked. Engine sounding great.
Thank you all for suggestions & your help.
Great Forum ๐Ÿ–๏ธ
