Hiya,

Last week, myself and my friend replaced the N/S rocker cover seal/gasket on my stepdad's series 2, as it had gone hard and brittle, and, was leaking oil. It also had a water leak coming from the bottom of the throttle body where the coolant heats the body.

To get access to the rocker cover, we marked up all the wiring n pipes, etc and removed/disconnected them, including the LPG system (multipoint system), and also, the TB so we could fix the coolant leak. Whilst we had the TB off, I cleaned all the oil n muck from the inside of it inc the butterfly.

After putting it all back together, we started it up and it all seemed ok till I took her for a test drive. When running on petrol, it seems to have a misfire mainly between 1-2000rpm, although on a light throttle it can still be felt higher up the revs but not so much. When on the LPG, its ok but then it starts popping and backfiring when you open the throttle up. We've had a good look and can't see anything untoward, so I was wondering if any of you good chaps on here might have any ideas what could be the problem? Could it be because i cleaned off all the built up residue on the TB and too much air is now going through or could it be an air leak on the inlet manifold/plenum chamber joint, as we never changed the metal gasket when we had it apart (which, personally, i think we should have).

If anybody can help, you guys can!!!:D

check for leaks with duck oil or similar on joint it will soon appear obvious by engine changing.

(be careful not to catch the fluid you use on fire on hot engine)
