Hi Guys - looking for advice and guidance please.
After a brief affair with a 2A SWB diesel approx. 20 years ago I recently bought a Series III LWB diesel with a view to getting it back on the road with my son - may even have belonged to someone on here. I am not a particularly experienced mechanic so this should be a learning experience for the both of us!
The downpipe from the exhaust manifold has a big hole in it and I guess needs to be replaced. A 2.5 diesel was put in at some point in the past and so I am not quite sure which part I will need. Looking at the engine block the number starts 12J so does that mean it is a 2.5NA from a 90/110/Defender? But looking at the inlet manifold/air filter assembly it looks as if it may be from a Sherpa/Taxi as it is a paper element type.
The downpipe has 3 bolt clamps at either end but looks as if it has been made from bits and pieces judging by the welding on it.
Please could you suggest what type/part number of downpipe I need - Series III/Defender/Sherpa etc. When I replace it do i need gaskets etc and should I replace all the bolts/studs/nuts as a matter of course?
I am only in Cardiff so would Bearmach in Caerphilly stock the parts?
Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post.
