HI ALL WE HAVE RECENTLY BROUGHT AN 04 td4 AUTO FREELANDER FOR MY WIFE AS HER MINI AUTO GEARBOX FINALLY GAVE UP THE GO LAST MONTH,

WE HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR AROUND TWO WEEKS AND I DROVE IT THE FIRST FEW DAYS TO MAKE SURE IT WAS OK AND HAD NO PROBLEMS AND WAS VERY HAPPY WITH IT ( YIPPE NO MORE CVT GEARBOX:):):)) BUT I JUMPED IN IT THIS WEEKEND AND NOTICED A LITTLE BIT OF EXCESSIVE SMOKE COMING OUT THE BACK WHILST DRIVING AND VERY SLUGGISH WHEN CHANGING GEAR.

I HAD A SIMILAR SORT OF PROBLEM WITH A 318CI AUTO AND IT ENDED UP BEING THE MAF SENSOR BUT NO SMOKE WITH THAT, SO JUST WONDERED IF ANY BODY HAS ANY IDEAS OF WHAT TO DO OR WHAT IT COULD BE,

P,S, CAR IS A DAMAGED REPAIRABLE THAT I REPAIRED MY SELF SO DID STAND STILL FOR A WHILE IF THAT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE ?

any other ideas people? air filter looks fine and if it was blocked would it be sluggish at changing gear?

ok all after looking through the forum a couple of questions ?

what and where is breather filter and how do you check or change?

alos how do i check egr valve and where is it located ?

sorry if i sound a pain !!! but after the trouble of the mini recently dont need another large bill so any help is really appreciated.

Crank case breather LLJ500010. Won't have been changed if the car has been serviced by a non LR specialist or dealership.

Exhaust Gas Recycle unit is the metal tube in the air intake line and has a smaller tube attached to the exhaust manifold. As you look into the engine bay it is to the front of the bay on the right hand side. The metal tube on the left hand side of the air input line is the air flow sensor housing.

The breather filter is to the back of the engine under the cover, just sitting over where the air filter is. Search for further info.....
