hello all
1971 series 2a swb petrol
(probably) a simple question from a total novice... how do i go about diagnosing and fixing the fact that when i push the light switch down all i get is sidelights and no full headlights???
brakelights, indicators and rear seem to be ok but it's not a good situationto be in with these dark winter evenings without something to see where i'm going.
probably a very daft question  to start with but i'm a beginner and so in need of good advice
thanks everso

Several possibilities
1 - Check headlights to see whether they work, best way is to take them out and hook both sides up to a battery (alternate them) to check whether the bulb is blown inside or not.

2 - If 1 works then check proper contact is being made on the connector to the rear of the headlight. Best solution would be to hook up a multimeter onto the cable (make sure it's able to take the high current!) and see if there's power going to the headlight

3 - If 2 fails then perhaps the next bet would be to use the multimeter to check the switch for the fullbeam is functioning correctly.

4 - If 3 failed then you'll have to either clean / replace / repair the switch, if it passed then you'll have to trace out the wiring to see where it's damaged and repair that section.

Have a good look at the Ignition switch.
As all the power flows through this switch the contact become hot and get crusty and eventually stop working.
You can tell this by looking at the connectors on the back of the switch.
If you have a positive earth Landy I recommend cleaning the switch as the replacement is expensive.
