Hello Folks,

First post so plse be gentle !! Just bought a manual Freelander td4 2001 with 107k on the clock .. Its had a new gearbox and clutch with paperwork supplied but have found a few problems.

First being when i turn the freelander and when on full lock ( left & right ) or nearly on full lock its makes a winding noise and feels like its struggling.

Secondly there seems to be alot of play in the gear knob even when in gear is it something that should of been replaced when had new gear box ? is it easy to fix as well ...

Any help would be gratefully received ....

thks alan

could just be the power steering pump but it could be the viscous coupling if you also get a clonking noise

oh sorry i forgot to say WELCOME TO LOONEYZONE!

there is a certain feeling of binding on full lock, you really need to drive another one to compare. if you do a search for VCU and/or tippex test, you'll get an idea. There has been lots written on here about it, and they all do it to a certain extent. Try the tippex test and you'll get an idea if your VCU is failing.

Good Luck and welcome
