morning all

The problem I'm having is when doing 50mph and back off the throttle I get a really loud drone from the back end of my landy.. goes away soon as I go back on the throttle.

I am looking to change the transfer box as the 1.667 is way to low for me 50mph is about all I want to push as my 300tdi sounds like it's screaming
Any help would be greatly appreciated

My landy is a 110 ex mod soft top 300tdi converted

Rear prop is always favourite starting place, any lift/play in the sliding joint can make some amazing noises but only on the overrun.

Is it definitely from the back? A groaning noise when you back off the gas could be the intermidiate gear on the transfer box.

Crownwheel and pinion worn out in the back? Or some of the bearings in the back diff?

the noise on coming off power is often a sign of worn pinion bearings, but you can also get with excessive play in intermediate gear in t/box

Could it be a normal noise from an old and unknown use 110. My 90 does it a bit as well and as described, only on lift off and it could simply be a rattly exhaust or the above many replies.

My lt230 is worn on the input gear bearings (incorrect shims) and I get a chattering rather than a drone.

Mine sounds just like a transit tipper in to higher gear pulling away definitely a drone on de acceleration goes away soon as I put my foot on the throttle

Thanks for all your replies

Also off subject anyone know of any parts for sale I need?

-Windscreen in a frame
- handbrake help sticking on
- 1.2 transfer box

Getting desperate my missus only sees the problems and cost of my landy not that it's my pride and joy so she's pressuring me to sell it!!

How hard to fit a transfer box and fix my handbrake sticking on? As my mot is 23rd September

Just in case anyone still has this problem and comes to this thread looking for ideas (as I did), I had exactly the same problem on my IIa and it turned out to be the rear prop shaft front and back being out of phase. Once I'd aligned the front and back jaws, the noise - and a whole load of related squeaks - disappeared.

Just following up on this old thread - did you ever find out what the groaning sound was coming from? I have a similar issue.
