Hi there, in gained a strange coming from my engine and the oil light has came on even tho it is full of, Last night I was on my way back home and my oil light started to flicker so I did the obvious pulled over and stopped the engine left it for half an hour to let everything settle checked all the oil level and as expected oil level was correct, so am I correct in thinking this is showing a loss of oil pressure? as I was only 2 mile from home I decided to limp back but on the way back I noticed a strange noise coming from the engine. Can anyone give me some advise on this?

If the oil level is ok, and no leaks anywhere it could just be your oil pressure switch packing up. Happened in mine two weeks ago. Oil light kept flashing in and off. Replaced switch and its as good as new

I have just spoken my local landrover parts lads and they have said it could be one of the cam bearings?

1) replace oil pressure switch.
2) get oil pressure checked.
3) come back with results.

Do not drive the car!
Oil volume and oil pressure are two totally separate things.

Okay will do. But do you think it could be that cam bearing?

It could be........ But it could be a hundred other things! How dumb would you feel if you did a complete engine rebuild and still had the problem? Then change the switch and it cures the problem.

Do not run the engine until you get the pressure checked. For which yu have to run it :(.

Only had my 90 5 weeks and I'm already talking technical 😉. Amazing how quickly you learn about engines when you own a Landy 😁

The noise is like pop noise but last night after a bit more investigation but i think that is coming from the EGR valve now. But I'm still lost on why this would make the oil light come on. Or could it be a bad coincidence fat EGR valve and sensor went at the same time

Just another quick update, I have found the main problem, my turbo has gone will update once my replacement turns up and I have it fitted.

Lucky you didn't get turbo runaway .

Will a blown turbo lead to pressure loss, while it has still plenty of oil?

Irrespective of reason, if you have been running it in low oil pressure, it may well have done further damage :(.

It only ran for a matter on 10 mins and I kept just enough revs on so the light didn't come on.

Just wanted to put up it was my engine oil pressure switch that had gone causing the low pressure light to come on also the strange noise was my turbo.

So if anyone has a decent second hand turbo kicking about and would like to sell it on. Or if anyone wants to purchase a 95 300tdi discovery in need of a turbo I'm looking at selling her on as I am looking at putting a 200tdi into my series 3 and using that as my play toy.

Ah an accumulation of stuff! often the way, glad you kept the thread updated, was some good advice on it plus by completing the updates this will help others too.
