Tigger Eeyore & Roo

I have a very good friend who is long since retired and she's run the same M reg 90 from when it was a year old. It's in beautiful, original order, with full documented service history

She isn't into the Land Rover scene but adores her car and she's just been told to get shot of it by her local garage due to unspecified chassis rot. She contacted me and she's on the verge of tears at having to part with it and buy a non entity that she can fit her deer hound in!

Originally she wanted to just sell it, but I asked her if she'd prefer to repair it for the cost of downgrading to some pile of poo with a big boot. She had no idea that that might even have been possible.

She's in the Bude area of North Cornwall. Can someone recommend a good specialist, within trattering distance, she could go and talk to?

All help gratefully received!

Of all of the reactions I could have expected from the hardcore enthusiasts on Landyzone, with a dedicated LR damsel in distress, the silence is deafening!

Come on, prove you're not all a miserable bunch of nut polishers and help this good lady out!!

If she or you were anywhere near where I lived I'd say pop round and we'll have a look .. as it is, you aren't, she isn't, so can't reasonably be done.

Thanks for the reply Marmaduke :)

I know that there are a load of good people here in Cornwall and someone will step forward and help this good lady out.

Not sure how much she is willing to pay for another car but there is a place in Liskeard which advertises new chassis swaps - if it can't be repaired? Not that cheap - Tamar cars I think, don't know anything about them other than they advertise this service on the bay.

This may or may not be of use to you - I live in N.Devon and a garage in Ashreigney (about 8 miles out of Torrington on the Crediton/Exeter road) which is a small village some 33 miles from Bude, carried out a rebuild of my Defender 90 300 TDi a couple of years ago. I won't bore you with everything that was done but the work included fitting a Marsland galvanised chassis, a complete new braking system and a rear tub plus lots of other things. The garage is called Paul's Automotive Services - Tel No: 01769 520800. He has a web site - just Google the business name. His partner is Sarah who may answer the phone.
I'm Ian - if you do contact Paul, he will remember my blue Defender and the horrendous mess it was in with me having made a foolish purchase. It is now a very serviceable vehicle which many people comment favourably on (except my wife who hates it).
I nearly forgot to tell you that if the vehicle in question is undriveable, Paul has a vehicle trailer and a Range Rover for the collection of vehicles. Also I will add that I have no financial relationship with Paul - in fact I haven't seen him for about 15 months but he is absolutely straight and knows his stuff.

Great, I'll give them a bell today.

If the local garage have said to get shot of it where is that info ?surely they can write that down for her, or 2 mins on the phone and she can write it down ? Can you not ring the local garage ? It seems the problem is getting any of us close to the LR which may not be necessary if the local garage have already seen it.....

But that local garage may have no interest in Landrovers and do not understand ours and just don't want the job.
