Hi Guys, I have a:

2010 Range Rover 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography 143k Miles (Bought it 2 months ago)

And it wont start! :(:mad::confused::oops:

So I unlock the car with the remote key as normal, car lights up, mirrors unfold. I get in, key left inside the pocked as normal. Press the push to start button, car lights up even more and comes alive, radio on, dash board all lights up, dash screen says ignition on, but no crank/turn over! :(

RAC breakdown cover came out, tested the battery, battery is perfect, he even tried to jump with his battery, still no crank, he tried to find the starter motor but couldn't find it. Got it recovered to a local garage who tested the starter motor and the starter does not receive a live feed/signal from the car, indicating the starter motor is not at fault. Garage have said it'll require further investigation in the new year, and I desperately need this over the xmas/boxing day period =(. They said it could possibly be a fuse/relay or ignition or ECU problem.

I'm so confused, the car knows its in Park, it knows the foot is on the Brake, the Battery is good, the Starter Motor is good. What could it be? I've done my searches on the forum, YouTube, there is some information but they're all on different models of Range Rovers and not specific to my model :-/

Can anyone help me please? I'm like a entry level home mechanic, is there anything I can test myself? It was completely perfect until this point :(

Thanks in advance guys :)

It's probably your inhibitor switch, if it doesn't know it's in P it won't start.
It may be under the gearstick console.

Is yours the stick or the later rotary selector?

Thanks for the reply! :)

I believe the Range knows its in Park because it doesn't attempt to "go live" and show me the digital Speed and RPM dials unless its in Park, I tried to press the "push to start" button in different gears and it tells me it should be in Park, and when its in Park and I press the push to start button, the digital screen shows the Speed and RPM, just wont turn over.

This is the same for the Brake Pedal, if I dont press it it says I need to press it, and when I have my foot on the Brake and press start I get the Speed and RPM Dials on the digital screen but no crank.

As mines 2010 it has the Gear Stick, I believe the rotary gear selector is 2011 onwards or so.

You may wish to do a hard reset, this entails disconnecting both leads from the battery, when BOTH leads are OFF the battery you then WAIT for 20 minutes, THEN you can safely touch both cables together to dissipate residual energy for approx 10 seconds.
Once reconnected you will need do to the steering wheel lock to lock reset.
Don't have your face or hands too near to the pyrotechnic link in the possitve cable.

You should keep the fob away from the vehicle during this time.

So,
Pop bonnet
Fob out of car
disconnect battery cables
wait 20 mins
touch both cables for 10 secs AWAY from battery and HANDS away from pyro link.
reconnect
steering reset

In the absence of me knowing the EXACT procedure details, remove the earth first and fit last. Some say to have the lights switched to ON and reconnected the POS cable last in order to avoid a voltage spike but I've done it earth off first and last on several times with no ill effects.

If your confused, don't do it.
