Hello everyone.

My disco 2 TD5 auto transmission is shifting late in Drive mode. Espesially from 1st to 2nd. Car gets to 40-50km/h with using 1st gear and only then shifts.

As for the gearbox I'm almost sure manually shifting to 2nd and 3rd doesn't work at all. It manually shifts to 1st only.

Yes, it's original 22 year old transmission and I have to be thankfull for it to even work :)
But maybe someone had same problem and could provide me with some insights

Checked oil level?
When was oil last changed?
When was filter last changed? and if it was did you cut it open to see what it was like?

Checked all the selector linkages?

Thanks for the response. Actually 2 years ago, previous owner drove this car to road trip and back while oil was leaking and when he got back it was almost drained.

Had the leaking spot fixed and oil changed but not entire transmission replaced.

I would say it this is when it got f.ed up but this car had same problem even before.

If you ask me I don't even know why this car works. We replaced entire engine 3 years ago.

The car also has problem of not generatig enough revs in higher altitutes were there's less air pressure.

I'm planning on visitin special transmission service this week and will know more answers to your last three questions.

I don't have an auto but I suggest that you scan the EAT for trouble codes. I also remember seeing a stall test in the RAVE section for the auto box which you can carry out to eliminate issues with the torque converter.

My previous D2 was an auto and also had change problems from 1st to 2nd (changed only on high revs). After 2 oil changes and some auto trans additive with the 2nd change the problem solved.

I had a similar issue on my Range Rover Classic turned out to be the kick down cable seized , lubed it and all was fine again.
