Hello all

I have bought a 1983 110 which had a V8 fitted to it in the 80/90's

from the engine number 24D......... I have figured out that it is a early range rover injection 3,5 motor.

it has the following setup
the black drum shaped air filter,
Lucas 2 AM flapper airflow sensor 73243A then some pipe bends
then at the beginning of the plenum LUCAS throttle position sensor 73291A
the throttle mechanism ist painted blue and seems to be after market?? (the part which connects the cable to the throttle at the beginning of the plenum)
the injectors are LUCAS 73178 A
ignition module LUCAS 84453B

it struggles to start..... needs a good few tries when it is cold, once warm fires up with a bit of throttle

it idles quite high (no gauge but at least 1000+ rpm)

it hunts in idle quite badly making it almost impossible to drive in idle

does anybody have any tips where to start looking and a comprehensive workshop manual for this engine with this setup?

any help would be most welcome

Thanks stopover
I put my hand over the air filter intake today while she was idling and she just carried on idling!! So I suppose I do have an air leak.... Where would the air leak create the hunting idle though? After the air flow meter ? After the throttle control? Can the plenum box be leaking?

plus dont forget rave manuals, though not sure if they cover early rrc engine..but are good for shed loads of info..

though if out in the bush rather alot, prehaps a downwards "upgrade" to carbs/carb (holley) would be an idea??cos lucas electrics could kill you??
