Hi all. Drove my classic forward out of the shed today to strip out carpets and sound proofing in the driver footwell to prep it for welding. I parked it on a grassy slope which is pointing downwards and pulled up the handbrake and selected reverse as an added precaution. Done the footwell prepping and got back in and started it up. Went to move it out of reverse and it wouldn't co-operate. Eventually got it to what felt like neutral and tried to get reverse gear again but, no joy. Wrestled it back into a very stiff neutral and engaged first gear. When I took my foot off the clutch it drove forward as it should. I stopped, dipped the clutch and tried for reverse again but, no joy again. Now it is stuck somewhere between the neutral position and reverse. The car will roll when I take my foot off the brake so it is in neutral but the gear selector wont travel to that neutral point where it wiggles left and right. I'm thinking something has dislodged in the gear selector unit and that the problem isn't in the selector shaft inside the gearbox. Anyone of you kind people know the setup with the selector unit on the top of the LT95 gearbox?.....

Thanks all.

Have you tried putting the transfer box into neutral, then changing into reverse, then changing back into high range? That worked when our disco 2 wouldn't go into reverse. Although putting it into reverse with the engine off and then starting in gear also worked.

That's all I can suggest I'm afraid, I kinda suck at this stuff. Good luck though.

you need to remove the top but carefully as detent springs held down by the top might fall in the box, youd need to ensure all jaws line up whilst all gears are in neutral, reverse is adjustable by a pinch bolt

Thanks James....Have you any idea what has happened. There was absolutely no warning just one minute it worked. Next it didn't :(

its possible a selector fork likely reverse has moved on the selector shaft, all jaws need to align for lever to run smoothly across

sorry for wrightin on your feed im new to this i dont know how to post my own problem i have a 2002 free lander it has no power it was okay the other day and now it just doesnt pull could it be something silly or big problem??

Yes. I've done all that. It wont budge out of it's current position with engine running or not.....Thanks for your input though.

James. Do you have any links to what's in the top of the LT95 box. I have searched online and there's very little out there. I just need to see the setup on the selector shaft so I know what I'm dealing with?.....Cheers for any help.

James....Am I right in thinking that in your picture with the screwdriver sticking in the back of the selector assembly, 4th gear is selected?.....I am in the top of the box now and the reverse selector shaft will select reverse but wont move back to align with the other two forks to engage neutral properly. The gearbox is in neutral so I'm suspecting that the reverse Idler lever is restricting the movement. The 1st/2nd... 3rd/4th selector forks are aligned but the shafts wont move forward or backwards except for a slight bit of longitudinal movement.....Any suggestions at this point would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

you have reverse jaw with hinge 3rd/4th jaw the 1st/2nd jaw, sounds like reverse selector has moved ,check split pin through jaw hasnt broken if not slacken the pinch bolt on rev lever and adjust so jaws align yet reverse still fully engages and disengages and doesnt catch 1st gear whilst its in neutral
