Recently purchased a 3.5 engine with both gearboxes...
the engine number is
15G01080 from this ive worked out that the engine came from a 110/90 wondered what else people here can tell me...

i also found 13C01268A written on the transfer box. Can anybody shed light on the transfer box? Couldnt find a no. On the main box yet..

thanks

Its got that pulsair thing and ive been told only rangeys have that... head change you reckon? How much less power would it have being low comp?

Cooltide wish id known that about 3 weeks ago! Would spending the money to raise the conpression make much difference?

Saw your buying a 3.5 thread, assumed you were looking that side of the pond.
You could fit high comp pistons but keeping an eye on costs, I'd just look for some 10 bolt heads ..... and a nitrous kit :D

Well these heads have pulseair which i think is a rr thing so ill get the rocker covers off annd count the bolt holes fingers crossed haha currently about to phone an archaeologist to help me get these water pipes off as theyve fossilized to the jubilee clips... and i had been looking at one on ebay but for 70 quid more i saw this one over here with a 4 speed box a transfer box and a fancy distributor so i figured it was a better deal... nitro? Can just see myself trying to convince my insurance company that its just a small lpg kit haha

Got the valley gasket off inside is the colour of death...black sludge everywhere... if its really only got 60thousand on it the oils been their for most of it

Oh dear, it doesn't sound like a 60k at all.

Don't want to **** on your chips and I am a v8 fan,
But if I were you I'd fix the 300tdi. The fab shop owner in my village recently did his, think he said he got a new or maybe recon head for £500.

A 3.5 will be down on torque compared to the TDI with a bit of a HP payoff over 3000 rpm and much less mpg. Probably less reliable too.

Put it in a go kart instead, that would be fun ;)

The funny thing is the tdi blew the gasket completely and hydrolocked when it cooled (checked by hand prior to starting) so decided 20 quid on a gasket isnt alot if the heads knackered then its only 20 quid if its good happy days... been a week and shes running good so it didnt even need a head.... is the black sludge of death as bad as its made out to be ? Like surely its just the black sludge of poor health and can be fixed?

And i thought the v8 had good tourque? I know that on paper the tdi is the better engine logically it accelerates fast enough and the defender goes quicker than od need it to but the v8 sounds great haha

TDI 111bhp 195ftlb
V8 125bhp 185ftlb a lot less with a worn cam

I changed from a holley to efi recently on my 4.6 which has done similar miles, it looked brand new inside.
A pleasant surprise but it has had good oil changed every 3k

Well i think im gunna stick a 3.9 cam into it ill just fix the engine up as and when ive got money and time.
mine has stromberg carbs i guess theyd do rightly for now.
are those performance figures for the low compression engine or the normal ones?

Probably wont go to mad i want the v8 just cause i like v8s and ill increase the compression and put a 3.9 cam in while im rebuilding it but im not looking for massive speed the tdi goes faster than ive ever wanted it too probably being able to accelerate a bit quicker and having v8 noise would be good enough... ill stick with carbs even though theyare worse in every way i kinda like them for some reason
