In my infinite wisdom, I decided to remove the passenger side bracket that attaches the windscreen to the bulkhead as it needed painting.

Mistake! :mad:

When I came to reattach it was a ball ache, and I had to try and push the windscreen down towards the bulkhead to get the bracket back on.

Ok, I thought, the bracket will tighten the windscreen to the bulkhead, but no. There is now a small 1/8" gap between the seal and the windscreen. I cannot get it any tighter.

Is there some sort of trick to get this back on?
There is now a mightily annoying whistle and a gale blowing through the gap above 30mph.

Any help greatly appreciated. I should have listened to my mate and painted it on the car, but no, i didnt, and now I cant get the bloody thing back together.

Have you tired slackening off the drivers side one then tightening them both together? will you are there it may be worth sticking a new seal in too:D
 
I haven't tried that, didn't want to have both sides not go on right!
Its a right pain in the back side, I would have thought the bolts would have pulled it into place, but they didn't. I thought there may be an order to put the bolts in to get it to pull the screen towards the bulkhead, but no...
It seems that I need to somehow pull the windscreen down towards the bulkhead before i tighten the bolts, but I have no idea how to do that.
 
Sorry, cant help you. But take comfort in the fact Im using you as a guinee pig as I need to replace mine also:)

So I hope you get it resolved.
 
Me too! Tried a few ideas but no look so far. Landy man kindly offered to help so hopefully get it resolved. Will post how its done when its fixed. Hopefully.
 
I had a similar problem with my windscreen hinges after a mate welded my bulkhead top corner on the ****. We had to get creative with ratchet straps and a lot of pry bars but enentually got it in. Have you got the hinged or fixed type? Fancy sticking a few pics up? somebody might be able to help..

Sorry Rik, can't help but if I may.....

Have some water leaking through my brackets - if i just loosen slightly to clean behind and apply soem sealent, will I be in the sh!t, or is that just if I completely remove?

Wasn't sure if any play in the holes, or once the bolts are in they are in
 
Ah've bin scratchin' me head over this one as ah've never had any probs takin' mines off!:confused:
Have ye tried slackenin' the bottom nut off a bit on the long threaded bolt that hooks onto the windscreen frame?

I remember doing just the same when I did my rebuild :doh: Yes it was a challenge !

The screws are binding in the casting and possibly cross threaded as they can't line up.

The inside brackets needed to be undone as you are fighting against them. You don't want to hear this, but I think I ended up undoing the top screen bolts and leaning the screen forward and they went in sweet

There is no long threaded bolt hooked to the frame. That's what got me confused. Saw it in your repair pics, but its only attached with the bracket on the outside.
We ended up drilling a hole into the piece of metal that the threaded bolt you mention would normally attached, feeding a piece if paracord through the hole, and tightening it with a g clamp on the rock slider. Got it much better than it was, but its still not perfect, but it was raining so its good enough until a dry day! No whistling or wind now just could do with being a little tighter.
Anyone else missing the threaded bolt thing? Can you buy them?

Ah changed the hinges on mine fur the solid type but used the original clamps when ah did the bulkhead;)
 
to fit the plain screen brackets, not the hinge type, the best way to fit them is this. Firstly you need a no.3 philips screwdriver with an 8mm dia. shaft(honestly!), if you're on your own, some kind of battery gun, or a mate with ratchet & socket. Fit the top bolt into the screen bracket, nip it but dont dog it up. Check that the bracket is as straight as it could be. Now insert the screwdriver through the bottom hole of the plate and into the bottom hole of the scuttle and lever down as far as poss to squeeze down onto the seal. Place the middle bolt in and tighten up. If it wont start it may mean that the bracket is a little askew, a torch shone up the middle hole whilst levering down should reveal this. After middle bolt is in fit bottom bolt, again if it doesn't, use same method to check sraightness. Once mid and bottom bolts are in tighten top one

Thanks for that. I will give that a go if its dry tomorrow, along with some gasket sealant along the seal, as the slight gap has got me worried about rotting the bulkhead.
It isn't going to damage the threads is it? Just out of interest, why is it an 8mm shaft?

the hole in the internal plate is 8mm, plus the screwdriver is quite strong and long enough to give you good leverage
 
you're only placing the driver through the plate & into the scuttle by about 15mm, NOT all the way through into bracket

Ahh, now I understand. So the scuttle is the top of the bulkhead near where it connects to the to the screen?
 
sorry. the scuttle is the baulkhead. same thing, different name. so to summarise. secure top bolt. s/driver thru bottom plate hole into bottom baulkhead hole & lever down, fit midd. bolt(if you lever down mid bolt hole you're in your other hands way!)
