Driving along normally, big clunk and have lost foward and reverse gears in high and low gear BUT if in diff lock it all works ???

What do you think has happened and is it an aa job ?

A half shaft or diff or a prop has gone have a look underneath and check the props first

or flange

drive it home in diff. get someone to take it out of diff and accel a little when you stick your head between your knees and check for any movement of the big long shafts. there will be one on each end.

could well be the right hand front driveshaft cv joint failed ( inside the swivel housing), its normally that one that goes first and causes the symptoms you are having

Driven just under 400miles this weekend watching the tour de france so I can't complain if she bitches about it and kicks off whilst on a shopping trip
