Hi

I have just jacked in my 2016 company car ford kuga For a 1987 defender 90 ( see attached). I thought I better introduce myself as if it goes horribly wrong I may be calling on the wealth of knowledge on here! It is my absolute dream car and I will treat it with TLC! could anyone recommend to me the first things I check / maintain on a defender of this age? I'm no mechanic but hoping to learn!
Thanks

Welcome. A nice early 90, with proper bulkhead vents. It's a 30 year old vehicle remember so expect things to need done. Saying that a vehicle that is used regularly will run better. Looks like it's been well looked after. Enjoy!

Welcome to lz, Tommy! :)

It isn't a Defender, despite the letters on the bonnet, it is a Ninety.

And if it has it's original engine, thorough servicing is essential, including getting a good injector service, so they don't cut through your pistons.

Thanks for your advice! It has a 200tdi In it, replaced 3 years ago which I am hoping will give it longevity. What do I need to inspect / look out for?

Hi Tommy,

A FULL oil change. EDIT, By which I mean, complete fluid change.....
Check the chassis for rust / dodgy repairs.
While there, verify all serial numbers, it makes ordering parts easier.
Then treat the chassis , the options are out there from waxoyl to a number of other things.

Enjoy...........................:):):):)

Cheers

Fuel and oil filter change, and engine oil. Air filter, set tappets, good look over chassis and bulkhead, check any suspect ares with a hammer. Change brake fluid, deal with any problems as they arise.

Should be about it, good ones are pretty robust.
