First off, let me introduce my self , my name is Ant, and Im from Stoke, and now, I was hoping to pick your brains.

I have a 2000, 1.8 freelander, I am suffering from what I think is an IRD failure, but not sure of the cheepest way to repair so its usable.

I have removed the prop, but with the front wheels off the floor, they still lock up every rotation, can you tell me if there is some sort of geared wheel inside the ird that can be removed to stop drive completely? or do I have a more serious problem? The car still has drive to the front wheels, but obviously cannot be driven, wheels can be moved past the point where they lock, but doesnt sound to good.

there is a probably a chunk of tooth or bearing stuck in the teeth of one gear which will prevent rotation. i think you will have to remove ird to gain access to all parts, then you will be able to rebuild.
