Born and raised in the US, I didn't see many Defenders as a kid. Saw my first Defender in the early '90s and have wanted one since.
I lived/worked in Russia for about a decade where they're prohibitively expensive ($25k+ for 10+ year old vehicle) so that had to wait.
Moved to Cyprus in '08 and finally came around to buying a Defender the day before yesterday. It's a '96 D90 300tdi which cost me EUR 6k - not the cheapest by UK standards but about EUR 2k below market in Cyprus.
Looking forward to joining the local Land Rover club here. I know they do monthly treks.
Also will have a lot of questions to the forum. I've never gotten my hands dirty with fixing a vehicle. Step 1 - Just bought the Haynes guide.
