Hello All,

I am new a member of the Landy Zone, but have been reading lots of intersting posts and helpful posts here since i bought my Hippo
I bought a 2002 Freelander V.6 automatic in August from the UK, converted from Right to Left hand drive. I currently live in Belgrade, Serbia.
I am hoping that some one here within the forum can help me with their wise wisdom :)

My freelander started fine, i pushed the Brake down and it was really stiff. When i put it in any gear it just starts to move and i cannot stop it with the Brakes i have to get it back in P and leave it.
I am not technically minded, just an end user.

All / Any help Much Appreciated

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for your introduction :). The Jatco automatic gearbox is not somthing I am familiar with but someone here will know how to fix your problem.

Enjoy your stay :D!

Hello and welcome. Are the engine revs too high or is the problem with the brakes not holding. We really need to know so as we can (hopefully) diagnose your problem.

Problem with the brake servo maybe? Has the vacuum line to the servo become disconnected?

Thanks for the Timly responses,

The Revs are ok when i start it in Park, however when i put it in gear the Brakes are not holding and the car just wants to go.

Sounds like maybe your clutch is sticking?

Hi Ady,

I would not be able to say about the brake servo or vacum line. I really would not know where to look.
Sorry i know its not much help.

Hi WLJayne,

I don't knwo where to start to find out if the cluch is sticking. I will take it to my mechanic in the morning and update what the Issue is / was.

Hi Woz

This sounds more like a brake problem than a gear-box problem.

Which garage are you going to.

A couple of months ago I visited the LandRover service specialist out near Avala - seemed pretty efficient and well eqippped.

He had a few MUP/Police LandRovers in his yard so I would expect them to be OK.

Singvogel.

I'd be thinking air leak stopping the servo working and raising the revs! Maybe just servo hose come off after the conversion:D
But what do I know;)

Sounds more like the revs are too high as its an automatic, what does the rev counter say when you put it into drive before you try and pull away.

The auto coupled to the V6 has more than enough drive at tickover to pull the car at 10 mph which is normal for an auto. I think this is a brake problem tbh. If it's a conversion to lhd then it could be something like the brake master cylinder is'nt lined up correctly so is'nt being pressed properly. Or the vacuum booster venturi is'nt fitted. Does the car stop on the hand brake? Stopping it with the park pawl in the auto box will destroy the box ;)

Hi Singvogel,

I know the Place its called Kozarac Landrover Service,

As you might know the Offical Service in this country can be Really expensive.
I use a Back Street Mechanic (but mainly for the mundain stuff).

TBH i have been driving the car since Aug, had the Front brakes changed in Aug too and i have not had any major issues.
The Car does not stop on the handbrake at all.
Thanks for the Info on how to destroy the Box (i won't do that in ahurry again). But it was the only thing that i could do.

But also i'm not getting any lights on my dash to indicate anything.

When i start the Car it goes to 1000 revs and then when i try to pull away it moves to 2000.

I'm sure that you know more than me at this point. :D

1000rpm is too high, if it goes to 2000 rpm on its own its definately too high, if the brake pedal is solid it suggests servo inop, revs too high suggests air leak! Common denominator? Vacuum hose from manifold to servo! What's been modified to swap drive to other side? Yupp, the brake servo;) its where I'd start looking:D

Thanks for the Info Diesel Do.
I cannot say what's been modified when the conversion took place.
Brakes are Solid, there is no give at all when i push down on the Brake (like pushing down on a floor knowing its not gonna move) :)

I'd start with how the conversion was done and basically look for bodges or mistakes! They've probably modified right hand drive bits rather than using the correct bits!
Like I said what do I know;)

I have had the Car serviced twice this year, once in the UK before going on a 1500 mile raod trip and when i got to Serbia after the road trip. Both Mechanics have said that the Conversion job was a good one, the only thing that was not changed was the Wipers. but that i can live with.

If i end up going to an offical Landrover Service i will ask them to check it too.
