Hi all,
Just joined the forum so I though I’d say hello. I have a love and hate affair with all of the vehicles I’ve had, now 58 in total. I love them all for a while the. I get bored with them. My biggest love is minis and I’ve had 17, but I’ve just bought my 5th Land Rover. I’ve previously had two hippos, a disco two and a P38a, all diesels. Now I’ve just bought another P38a. It’s a 2001 4.0 litre cairngorm edition and it has several faults.
I will be trawling through all of the faq’s etc to get advice but I’m a nurse and not a mechanic. That said I love to tinker and will try most things myself, although I’ll be sure to ask questions.
I’ve only had it two days and I’ve learned that it’s Oslo blue and the cairngorm edition was only sold in Scotland, with only 150 being offered across the range of defenders, discos and p38’s. I’d like to find out how many p38’s were actually made and I’d like to see if there’s an old brochure somewhere someone might have for sale. (Please feel free to point me in the right direction).
The issues I have include faded light bulb on the dash display, cruise control not working, electrics windows a bit dodgy, eas doesn’t seem to move - just stays all at one level, radio code required, front carpet mats missing, some tears in the door cards, remote control sometimes locks and unlocks the doors, and some minor rust. Delighted that there are no sign of the three amigos and no sunroof to worry about leaking though so looking forward to doing wee jobs as and when I can.
Please say hello and feel free to message me with any advice.
Thanks all
Craig

Hello and welcome:)
The cruise control is normally perished rubber pipe from the brake switch to the vacuum bellows.
pop over to the range rover section of the forum for more help:)

Welcome from a fellow Scot now in the Algarve but still have a family home in St Monans...nice intro and as above lots of gurus in the RR section...

Thanks Brian. I was wondering if you can recommend an online place for parts, or are they all as good as each other? Do you get a club discount anywhere?

Welcome Aboard from us Suvverners too!
P38's are great vehicles. Cruise control might just be a perished vacuum hose as @brianp38dse says, one of mine had this exact issue. I bit of hose later....all working.
Glad to hear she is staying on AIR. Good call that!

Ty, can’t understand why you would change to spring but hey ho! Where are the suvverners from?

Suvverners are (allegedly) found only south of the Watford-Gap services (which is the point north of which the "Norther Territories" begins (we are told). ;)
