Hi All

I have not owned a landy for a good few years since I had a series 3 back in the 90s.

We have recently bought a vintage Airstream Caravan that we are in the process of restoring and we need a good reliable tow vehicle so I thought the obvious choice would be another landy.

There are a lot more options to choose from nowadays and I am a little confused as to which model would be best so that is why I am here.

I am hoping you guys and reading up on the old posts on this site will guide us to our perfect tow vehicle

I look forward to getting to know you all

OK
Range Rover owners would say get a Range Rover
Discovery owners will say get a Discovery
Freelander owners will say get a Freelander
and guess what
Defender owners will say get a Defender

I however will say get the vehicle that suits you.
Test drive em all ( I'm now gonna brace myself cos this is going to be very contentious ) they are all capable of towing...... more or less ;)

Defender's still the best despite all the new models they've brought out!

Welcome to LZ - wherebouts in lovely sunny (!!!) Kernow are ya?

ey oop

where ya to in kernow?
Might be someone local to help / advise.

^^^what Bromsgrove said^^^ but if want my tuppenneth........

It depends on your budget. I personally would get a disco because of comfort / luggage capacity / towing capability and coz you can get a pretty good one for around 4-5k. A reasonably reliable rangie is gonna cost a lot more and a defender just isn't as comfy.

(don't know nuffink about gaylanders)

I know everyones gonna say it's coz I've got one but I've also got a rangie, have owned series in the past and have driven many defenders.

Thanks for all the info

We have looked at Discoveries but we have three dogs and there didn't look to be an awful lot of space in the back compared to the defender.

I would prefer a defender I think. LWB for the dogs. Will LWB be better for towing?

We are based in Falmouth

Get a 110 defender pre 2005 (they imposed silly seating requirements after that).

The best would be a mid 90's one (better mpg pre td5 so a 200 or 300) with a good (galvie?) chassis. Can't go wrong there!

i disagree od td5 is better on fuel have had 200tdi 90 and td5 90 and would say td5 is a few mpg's better

as many times as i can for the next 22 hours! then she is getting stripped down to standard.

Only goin on the figs i have seen, my mate gets 29 from the td5 (he has since upgraded to a puma and gets only 28!) and i get 32 from the tdi - both in a 90 (but mine is a disco tdi which gives out a bit more!)
