Hello all. Just found this site via the wonders of a certain search engine - looks like it'll be really useful.

I'm after a bit of newbie advice: thinking of buying a Freelander, with 6K to spend. I'm trying to decide between an '01 1.8 petrol, and a '98 2.0 diesel. Any thoughts, suggestions, advice?

Cheers,
Julie

Please do a search and read the 8 gazillion other threads askin the same question - but in case yu dont have the time - the answer is ......

DOOSIL EVERY TIME

dont buy a 1.8 unless yu have either a lot of money and/or like visiting your local garage. Or like risks:D

Thanks Mad Hat Man. My only thought was that as the diesel's older, there may be other issues that have been rectified in later models. I was quite attracted by the thought of owning a newer vehicle, but it seems as though the petrol's head gasket problems still exist in 2001 and later models :-/

diesel diesel diesel diesel diesel diesel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well... whatever she decides, I think we can rule out her buying a Jeep, any model, as you've been such a fine example of what happens when you own one.
