The heater on my series 2 seems like its got a later edition off a series 3, with a 2 speed blower. Its not good! is this the norm ? The pipes leading to and from the matrix are hot, but its blowing cool to warm air in cab.

Erre you go this is what you should have fitted to a series 2 (optional extra)

Bi-Lunar Gathering, Series 2 Land Rover Club - Heater

They dont get much warmer that a weak fan heater

I read the link you sent ,thats a lot of work. I theira hybrid model which can be used ?

go fur a deepender heater - pref a 2007 model.
