Heater blows cold all the time on 2.25 petrol. Occasionally gets slightly warm. Heater bypass valve must be open becasue hoses are hot.
can anyone help or suggest a solution, i know they arent the best heaters but it i'd have thought it should at least de-fog the windscreeen.

I'm no expert...and they do have a rep for being crap, but.....any series heater SHOULD at least blow some warm air.

Are the flow AND return pipes warming up? As in is there a flow of hot water?

Also check vent hose connections behind dash.

Lecky fan helped alot with mine tho if its real cold injun barely warms up less I'm towing so I often slip a bit of cardboard infront of rad to cover bout a 3rd of it up....makes a hellova difference....but then mines a diesel...yer petrol should run hotter..

Cant fink of anyfink else reet noo... feelin a lil lubricated...

Take off BOTH hoses from heater.

Attach a length of garden hose to one of them - and point it clear of car.

Attach garden hose to other heater pipe, fit hose to outside tap, and turn on the water. Blast a lot of water through heater matrix.

Put it back together.

Try again. There should be some warmth in it. Are you sure the thermostat is working? If it is jammed open the engine will never heat up properly, and will take ages even to get warm. Take it out and fit a 92° stat.

Like CharlesY says but your heater matrix might be gunged up and just created a 'track' for some water to get through but not enough. i.e. not enough volume of water 'cos not enough room for it.

ok checked some more. I assume the heater valve is open it is in the up postion when heater leaver is down in hot position.
the hose from the valve is warm but you can hold it i assume this is the return. the other hose from the head is mad hot and in fact i have to change this becasue its persished and balloned, possibly because of no flow if matrix is bunged up. i assme there is no flow thru the matrix because i took off the blower duct and its surface is stone cold. The engine warms up well and quickly kenlow fan with stat fitted so i think the stat is right. Will do the hose pipe thing when i change the hoses need to back flush i guess, can anyone confirm my assumtion that the hose from the back of the head is the feed and that to the heater valve is the return?
Thanks Jon

It would make sense for the valve to be on the return pipe as you have more control over flow that way

Might help to chuck some Radflush or similar nto radiator, take it for a run , get it circulated then leave it for a few hours whil you go to the pub then do the hosepipe flushing thing.

can anyone help i still cant get this damn heater working.
everything has been back flused and is clear heater occasssionally gets warm but then goes cold, valve is open temp gauge is normal as i have a range rover rad though does anyone think the engine is running cold? cant understand it. i know that with all the ventilation ina series LR its never going to be toast inside there but this thing doesnt even blow warm air to clear the screen?????

i'm assuming the heater fan is working ?

does the matrix get uniformly hot across all of it's surface - as was mentioned previoulsy it's very possible that it's innards are gunked up and the coolant is taking a very short route through it - apparently liquid dishwasher fluid is very good for cleaning such things - but you will need to remove it to do it properly, but then if you go to the trouble of removing it you may as well replace with a new one

if you have flushed the matrix could it now have air locks in it, maybee's...
does the return pipe now flow hot water or is it still cold and the supply hot?
could the ducting on the inside of the dash going up to the windscreen blowers have fallen off? i've found them to just be slipped on so it could easy come off.

the S3 heaters i've come accross can get pretty toasty like, enough to make the cab too hot, but then you can always open the vents and get an icy blash of winter gales in the face! :D
