Can anyone help please?

After changing the oil pump on my 1986 90 this morning I noticed I have a loose control wire that is connected to the side of the heater matrix box be low the middle grommet. The cable ran across the car towards the brake servo but is terminated with a coil and not not attached to anything.
I've followed the cables from the dash levers, one to the top of the heater matrix and the other down to the flaps in the lower dash. Where should this connect?

Is that the cable that connects the speed lever with some flaps in the matrix box? If zero speed is selected then the cable closes a flap (s) to prevent airflow from entering the cabin.

Not sure what you mean but 2 cables connect to the heater box, one on the side and one to the top. On the dash end you have 3 cables, 2 to the heater box and one to the lower dash flaps.
I can't remember which goes where at the dash end but it shouldn't be hard to work it out.
The lower flap one will go to the screen/footwell airflow direction lever , the heat control will go to the heater box side lever(not sure on this though)
The other cable that goes to the top of the heater box goes to the fan speed lever on the dash.
I'm going off memory here though!

Thanks,from the heater box the loose cable is the one on the side. I can't work out where it is supposed to connect at the dash end.
At the moment the heat control lever connects to the top of the heater box, the direction lever connects to the flap is the footwell. My fan speed lever has only the electrical connection. I can't see an obvious point to attach to.

I see from the picture from 200sx post where to attach it behind the fan speed control.

The one down on the side of the box is linked to the switch /lever that turns on the fan. If it is connected at the dash end you would see the cable end move when the fan switch is moved from top to bottom. It does what bluedog says.
When doing some work on mines heater box some years ago I forgot to connect it up I found that it makes little difference to cab airflow when the fan is off so have not bothered to reconnect.
