Land rover 90 1986 c reg 2.5 N/A

So having finally decided to have a look at the heater, have stripped it out and ordered a new matrix because the old one is rotten and probably is the source of my small water leak.

Got half the dash out as well to clean up control units and get rid of 30 years of detrius and rubbish in behind all that stuff.

Have one problem that is baffling me.
Got a cable that runs from the fan control unit that goes through the bulkhead into the engine bay, where it is attached to nothing.

There are 3 electrical contacts also on that and they work and the fan motor spins accordingly

So what does this cable do and where does it go.

Can only see two options, on top of heater box alongside the temperature cable or vertical down the side of heater unit to bottom of unit.

Any help greatly appreciated.

After re-reading your post, I can see what you mean now. If you already have a cable on top of the box, near the fan wiring, then it's the other one lower down on the engine side. It's supposed to control the flow of air through the heater unit. In theory, at a position before the fan comes on, air will naturally come in through the wing and make it's way to the cabin. Total fairy dust.

The third goes into the lower half of the dash, to move the flap that makes air go up/down.

It geos to the lever on the side. It closes a flap to stop air coming in.
To test it remove the cable at theheater end and push the arm down. Turn on the fan and nowt will come out
