Ive had an idea for a heated fuel filter, has anyone tried this or see why it wouldnt work?

Its basically a sleeve that fits fairly tight around the fuel filter with a length of hose coiling around it, around the outside of that is another cylinder that keeps it all in place. The hose would enter at the top through the side of the outer cylinder, coil around inside and exit at the bottom. This would be spliced into the hose going to the heater matrix. Kind of like a water jacket.

Suggestions?
 
I've made an in line heater for mine using the heater pipe as you suggest, I've fitted it as near to the injector pump as possible to ensure quick heat up. It's transformed my 300Tdi's running on veg oil ability.
Your idea would work but the heat up time will be greater and the heat exchange will be poorer. :)
 
The glow plug heaters are pretty poor as they get to hot and burn the wvo and won’t make much difference in heat anyway. I can’t get on to eBay as I am at work and its blocked but I presume the last link is a flat plate heat exchanger, they are what you want if you want to use veg, there are small ones on eBay which will work but you can get a large one removed from a combi boiler which will work very well. You will need to get one with threaded ports or find someone who can silver solder some hose fittings for you.

They are big and efficient enough to heat the fuel to pretty much the same temperature as the water so as soon as your water gets look warm your fuel will be to which shouldn’t take long. You might get to 30°C within a couple of minutes even in freezing conditions which is probably as good as the glow plug ones ever get.
