Been a while since I posted on here. Freelander going well, now on 220000 miles lol.
Just thought I'd let you guys know I got the heated front screen working. Basically the screen was already in, I bought a button in the hope that it I could fit it and it would work as the wiring to the dash was all in place.
After further investigation it turned out there was no loom under the bonnet and the wires to the screen were just tucked away under the scuttle panel. So, did a bit of phoning around and found a guy breaking a FL with heated screen in Manchester, 2 hours later I was taking bits off the car with no real idea of what to look for.
Once I found the loom getting it out took about an hour, the hardest part was trying to get the loom from where it had been routed under the box with the ecu in it. Once out the loom is very basic, one wire going to the battery terminal, 3 fuses a relay, a connector for the switch loom which was tucked under the fuse box and 2 wires one for either side of the screen. Fitting it back into my FL took 10 minutes, just need to re route the wiring going to the switch loom. I have not followed the original route the loom took as it was a pain to get it from under the ecu box and I took the earth connections from the bolts holding the wings on lol. But it looks OEM and once I have re routed the switch wiring the engine bay looks standard.
Screen works fine with no missing elements and goes off after about 10 minutes. It does get very warm though, not like the screen on my galaxy which works fine but doesn't feel warm to the touch.
Total cost £75, £25 for the button and £50 for the loom.
