Now then.

I am buying another Disco this weekend, which has a cracked front screen.
It's bad enough to require replacement and I was just thinking on - while I am on with replacing the windscreen, are there any options (OE or aftermarket) to get a heated front screen?
They aren't half handy to have!

Thanks in advance, Stuart.

Fitting the heated windscreen is athe same as fitting a non heated windscreen, whether or not it works depends on whether you have the wiring in place for it??

Do you have black/purple wired connectors under the bonnet at the base of the windscreen?

Oooo, this is interesting. I didn't know there was an OE option.
Now I know there is (thanks Gents) - I'll source a heated screen rather than a none.
Surely, it doesn't need to be a proper switch? Just a switch on an ignition live feed and a plug made up would suffice?
I'll get a proper switch, if available, though.

Thanks for the help, Stuart.

Just do that and you will have a fire. You will need relays as there's two elements in the glass plus a timer relay if u would like that facility, the multi-function unit (MFU) looks after the timing timing on a factory fitted HFS.

As stated u may already may have the wiring depending on model year.

It's a 1994, so early 300tdi.
Where would the existing wiring be (if that loom is fitted) and how can I identify?

Regards, Stuart.

You should have the other end of this connector in the rain channel/scuttle area - inside the bonnet, at the back by the windscreen.

Ok then I doubt it but look for the sockets as mentioned in post #2. If no the the electrical installation will be similar to wiring something like spot lamps so simple.

There u go that's what you are looking for, there's one a each end of the screen.

Thanks very much, Gents. Fantastic forum!

Feck Off! We are obviously being too nice.

Only kidding! There's always somebody with the same problem who has "got the T-shirt". In my case, I've just wired a HFS from scratch, just four years after having a HFS fitted.:eek:

Early indications are that everything seems to work, just need some ice to test it!

I've got a super wiring diagram if you need it. The diagram isn't mine so I don't want to post it publicly.

Right. It transpires I don't have the wiring (had a look under the bonnet earlier).
I am thinking of checking with the insurance company whether I have windscreen cover (I'm fully comp) amd if so, asking them for a heated screen, then wiring it up afterwards.

Thanks, Stuart.

PS - wiring diagrams would be fab, thank you.
