my front heated screen does not work, I have located the yellow 4 pin relay under the bonnet and it looks scorched can I simply replace this with any 12v 4 pin relay or are relays all different depending on their application?

It's a standard relay size relay. Just make sure the replacement is the current rating and the holder is making firm contact with the relay pins.
